The global economic system is reliant on the burning of fossil fuels, including for energy production. The energy sector is the second-highest polluting industry in the world. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Locally-led renewable energy systems can reduce emissions from fossil fuel production of approximately 250 gigatons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) by 2050, which is equivalent to about nine years of global energy-related emissions.
